A Tribute To Michael Jackson.

A disturbingly somber mood hangs in the air throughout the world today, as the news of Michael Jackson’s death is still fresh in people’s thoughts.

Many believed this day would never come. Michael Jackson seemed invincible, a Peter Pan character which everyone grew up with, respected and loved. He was always there, inspiring countless people to follow in his footsteps and become successes in their own rights. From the likes of Justin Timberlake to The Backstreet boys, they all owe him their achievements.

His incredible career began when he was just 5 years old, performing with his siblings in the Jackson 5. After some time, it was clear Michael was indeed the star of the group as he embarked on the next stage of his life as a solo artist. He gained many number ones including ‘Don’t Stop Til You Get Enough’ and ‘Rock With You’, though the pinnacle of his career came when he released the album ‘Thriller’ in 1982. Including hits such at ‘Beat It’ and ‘Billie Jean’, this album is contested as the best selling album of all time.

In 1991, he was deservedly crowned ‘The King of Pop’, continuing to release albums and hit records including ‘Black and White’. His late album ‘Invinsable’ was released in 2001 with R.Kelly, signaling his return to music.

Just 3 months ago, the legend announced a comeback tour in London, consisting of 50 dates at the 02 Arena throughout this year and next. Of course he needed to render his money problems, but he also wanted to prove to the media and all those naysayers that he still had ‘it’ and was still a performer. His desperation to gain his fans back was clear and somewhat distressing. Though when all 50 dates sold out within one hour, it was quite obvious his fans had never left and always believed in him, proving once again what a huge superstar this man was. The word ‘superstar’ doesn’t even feel large enough to encompass his talent and status.

Many fans will be devastated that now they will never have the chance to see Michael Jackson perform live, particularly those who weren’t old enough, or even alive to see him in his prime. To see such an amazing artist live was an opportunity so many thousands of people wished to have during their life, which for some now will never be fulfilled. Michael put his heart and soul into trying to make sure this huge, last tour went ahead so that people could see him do what he loved best. It’s heartbreaking to know that he will never be able to prove himself to all those who slated him.

Ignoring the nasty media attention he gained and the accusations about his personal life, there stood a man with exceptional musical talent. He was music. There has never been anyone quite like Michael and I very much doubt there ever will be.

His physical presence may have gone, but his legend will live on forever. Michael Jackson will never be forgotten.

RIP. 1958 – 2009.
